Wellbeing and Big Canvases

Hi again,

Its been a while. I’ve been focusing alot on health lately with a myriad of health appointments week after week. Its fairly exhausting and making me wonder if i need health care. Money has also been a stressor but it normally is.

Mentally, I’ve been focusing on listening to my ‘bad emotions’ which are primarily anxiety and sadness - maybe depression but that’s a strong word. The advice ive been getting is to listen to the anxiety and ask it, what it wants. Check in with it, and try to understand instead of being angry or annoyed with it. This is easier said than done, but it is proving inciteful.

In other news, my favourite art podcast has just ended - Art Juice. Ive been listening to them on spotify and they have made such a difference to my confidence and willingness to make my art into a living a business. I am sad but respect that they are ending it when they want to. I’m also listening to their old episodes so theres still heaps I havent listened to!

Art business wise its been fairly quiet. I’ve been chipping away and exploring the art that I want to make. I’ve borrowed a few great books from the Coffs Harbour library which has great resources. I’ve thinking that I need to keep growing my ability through input from learning materials. I’ll probably be doing that forever.

This week has been busy! I’ve been thinking for a while that I want to do some big pieces of art, but my hold back is that I dont have room to store or keep them. Low and behold, I get a commission request for a huge 72 inch long 48 inch high painting of a turtle! Hell yeah! I’ve started and it is great fun. The weather has made it difficult, its very windy and pretty cold here and I’ve been trying to paint outside so that I get some sun, and because of space.

I’m writing down tips as I paint my huge canvas, and I’ll share some videos and probably do a blog post when after too, so stay tuned!

Finally, I’ve enter 3 pieces in the Sawtell Gallery Annual Exhibition for 2025. The exhibition opens at the end of June, so drop on by to see some local Art!

Thanks for reading,

b.
